ChatGPT Ads Can't Prove Conversions Yet - featured image

New ad channels keep launching, but measurement is lagging behind them. ChatGPT ads still struggle to report conversions, Amazon is pushing for a year-long attribution window, and Gemini just added tracking tags so its traffic can be counted at all. Meanwhile, platforms like YouTube are tightening around original content.

ChatGPT Ads Still Can’t Prove Their Conversions

Seven months after OpenAI began selling ads in ChatGPT, agencies say measurement is the sticking point. Accuracast ran a U.K. lead-gen campaign where the platform showed zero conversions two weeks after form fills arrived, and it saw ChatGPT report about 100 clicks where its own tracking found 20. Web Guide Partner says conversions that do register arrive 24 to 36 hours late, versus a few hours on Google. AdRoll, Jellyfish and another U.S. agency said they had not seen click discrepancies, but the gaps are keeping budgets at test level.

Run ChatGPT ads as a small test and verify every conversion against your own analytics before scaling spend.

Gemini Adds UTM Parameters for Referral Attribution

Google Gemini now adds UTM parameters to the links it sends out, according to Search Engine Journal. UTM parameters are tags on a link that tell your analytics tool where a visit came from. That lets site owners separate Gemini visitors from generic referral or direct traffic, which makes the value of AI search visitors much easier to measure.

Check your analytics for Gemini-tagged traffic and build a segment so you can track how those visitors behave.

Fall Sales From Amazon, Walmart and Target Land Next Week

Walmart’s Fall Deals Sale runs October 5 to 11, while Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days and the Target Circle sale both run October 6 and 7. Paid Target 360 members get access a day early. Since Amazon added a second fall Prime event in 2022, early October has become a real sales window and an early read on holiday demand, and marketplace ad costs usually rise when big retailers promote together.

Set your marketplace ad budgets and bid ceilings now, because competition and costs will climb during these overlapping sales.

Amazon Says a Fifth of Ad Value Arrives Late

Amazon studied more than 2 million June campaigns and concluded that roughly 20% of a brand’s sales value arrives after the attribution window closes, typically seven to 30 days. It is now using that finding to argue for measuring a full year. But Amazon is also defending its ad business as upper-funnel measurement and AI shopping pull money from search, and a longer window makes Amazon look better.

Treat the 20% figure as a hypothesis to test against your own sales data, not as a fact about your brand.

YouTube Will Cut Reach for Lightly Edited Reposts

YouTube is updating its recommendations to favor original Shorts. Channels that mainly re-upload other people’s clips without significant changes will see less reach. That hits clip-farming and low-effort repurposing strategies directly, while rewarding brands that make their own short video, even if it is simple.

Publish original Shorts, even simple ones, instead of reposting other creators’ clips with minimal edits.

Discord Opens Rewarded Video Ads and an Ads Manager

Discord launched a rewarded video ad format and its first Ads Manager for running campaigns. Rewarded video means users choose to watch an ad in exchange for something in return. Mobile advertisers now get a self-serve way to reach a gaming-heavy audience, and a self-serve tool lowers the cost of testing the channel.

If your audience skews toward gaming, run a small rewarded video test on Discord to see how it compares with your other channels.

A Social Club Cuts Grant Paperwork From Days to Hours

The Den, a social club opening a new location, says ChatGPT Work frees up 10 to 15 hours a week. Grant applications now take 2 hours instead of 3 days, and liquor-license materials take 3 hours instead of 4 days. This is a vendor-published case study with self-reported numbers, but it shows where AI saves the most time: long, document-heavy tasks with a known format that a person still reviews.

Start with structured, repeatable documents like applications and reports, and keep a human reviewing every draft.
