Ad platforms are racing to open new surfaces, from ChatGPT image ads to TikTok’s expanded network across roughly 400,000 apps. But measurement still lags behind the budget requests. Meanwhile, AI is moving into narrow decision work, and the winners will be the teams that control what their systems are allowed to do.
ChatGPT Ads Add Images and Better Measurement
OpenAI will start testing image ads in ChatGPT in the US later this month, and it is expanding measurement tools, attribution partnerships, and brand suitability controls. Since the February launch, advertisers have worked with a basic format and complained about weak measurement and thin inventory. This update targets format and measurement, but it doesn’t clearly fix the inventory problem.
Start with a small test budget on ChatGPT ads and demand attribution data before you scale.
TikTok Sells Reach Beyond Its Own App
TikTok launched its global TikTok Ad Network, formerly Pangle, to US advertisers at Advertising Week New York. It extends campaigns across nearly 400,000 apps worldwide. The pitch is that TikTok’s data finds audiences you can’t reach on TikTok itself, which also routes more of your budget through its tools. The catch is that TikTok hasn’t said which apps are in the network, so quality is unverified.
Ask for app-level placement reports before putting meaningful budget into the network.
Shapermint Nears $10M on TikTok Shop With Over-35 Creators
Shapewear brand Shapermint is on track for about $10 million in TikTok Shop sales this year. It hit $1.5 million in its first four months, with monthly growth as high as 515%. It works with over 5,000 active affiliate creators, and 60% of its top performers are over 35. That cuts against the idea that TikTok Shop only works for Gen Z.
Recruit creators who match your actual buyer’s age and life stage, not the platform’s stereotype.
Put a Policy Check Between AI Agents and Your Systems
A new guide on production agents describes an agent that read a ticket with a typo and updated account 132 instead of 123. The CRM reported success because the request was technically authorized. The authors argue that better prompts or stronger models can’t guarantee correct actions. Their fix is to have the model propose an action, let a separate policy service compare it with what the user approved, and execute only within those limits.
Never let an agent write directly to your CRM or other core systems without a separate approval layer.
A Cheap, Fast Model That Returns Decisions, Not Text
A developer walking through eight demos of a model called Jev says it outputs scores, classifications, probabilities, and function calls rather than prose. He reports spending 73 cents across 23 development runs, and says a separate run processed five gigabytes of JSON for 40 cents. His framing is to treat it like an if/else statement, not a chatbot. When each decision costs almost nothing, tasks like deduplication and routing become practical at volume. These are one presenter’s figures, not independent benchmarks.
Look for repetitive sorting and routing tasks in your workflow that a decision model could handle instead of a chatbot.
OpenAI Will Watermark ChatGPT Text in the EU
OpenAI will add an invisible watermark to ChatGPT and Codex text in the EU and open an API opt-in. Detection access starts with researchers, and OpenAI’s own tests show editing can weaken the mark. The move follows the EU’s code of practice on marking AI-generated content. Heavily edited copy may lose the mark, while lightly edited drafts may carry it.
Treat provenance as a growing compliance topic and document how your team edits and reviews AI-assisted copy.
Mueller: AI Crawlers Find Sitemaps and RSS on Their Own
Google’s John Mueller says he sees AI training crawlers fetching sitemaps and RSS feeds in his logs. He notes they usually offer no sitemap submission, and suggests using default sitemap names or RSS feeds to help them find a site. If you want AI systems to find your content, there is no console to submit to. Discovery depends on files sitting in predictable places.
Keep your sitemap and RSS feed at default, easy-to-find locations and make sure they stay current.
